Shaving Secrets For Men

Shaving might be one of the behaviors that separate men from boys, but it is also one of the behaviors that cause plenty of irritation. A badly shaved face will be covered with razor burn and those lovely red bumps that men everywhere dread. Razor burn is painful and unsightly, so getting the perfect wet shave should be an event that every man masters.

Begin by choosing your weapon.

A straight razor is the traditional favorite for the perfect wet shave. A straight razor can be sharpened to surgical precision and when used correctly will give the very best shave possible.

If you can handle a straight razor, you are well on your way to becoming a shaving expert. Disposable razors are the next best thing when it comes to that close wet shave. So choose your weapon and remember that it has to be sharp for the best results.

Buy a good exfoliating product that is designed for men.

Your wife or girlfriend can probably point you in the right direction for this product.

An exfoliating cream will remove all of the dead skin and daily debris that builds up on your face.

A clean face, not just soap and water clean, but down to the pores clean, will give you the best canvas for a good shave. So exfoliate before you shave and then rinse your face well.

Exposure to water and lotion will plump the skin, causing the hairs to stand straight. You need this to get a close shave without damaging your skin.

Once your face is wet, apply some shaving cream. Creams and gels are the base that you use to build your shave. They should be thick enough to allow the razor to pass over the skin without stopping, but thin enough that they do not clog the razor.

You can try several gels or creams until you find your best fit. Get that sharp razor ready and begin shaving. Remember that pressure is not important for shaving, the lighter the shave the better.

Don't press hard on the razor to remove hair because you will also remove skin. Use even strokes that glide over your face to get the best results. Move slowly and carefully around the nose and lip area to avoid cutting yourself, of course.

After your perfect wet shave, you will need to rinse the face thoroughly with clean water. Remember to rinse the razor too, because you will want those blades clean for the next shave. Clean and cool water will help to close your pores.

Use aftershave with lanolin or aloe to soothe your face following the shave.

Take your time and you will get the perfect wet shave without the pain!

Choosing the right products for your skin

Shaving is something that most men probably do not even think about. You get out of bed in the morning, shower and shave and head off to work. Whether you use an electric razor or shave with a disposable razor, you have likely been following the same procedure since you passed puberty.

Choosing the right razor, shaving gel and other products for your skin might not have even crossed your mind. Suddenly you're faced with razor bumps or ingrown hairs and the thought of shaving heads right to the top of your list.

Picking the right products makes all the difference in the world when it comes to a great shave. There is a whole process involved in selecting your skin type and matching shaving gels to your skin. It might seem complicated, but with a little effort you will have great skin and a comfortable shave.

Razors, no matter what style you choose, can be very abrasive to your skin. If you are battling razor bumps and ingrown hairs, you are likely one of those men with sensitive skin. Your skin requires a little pampering to look its best.

To begin, select a good quality razor. Whether it's electric or disposable, quality matters in the razor-world.

Electric shavers come in wet and dry models. The wet models tend to be the easiest on sensitive skin and can be combined with shave gels for a closer shave. Disposable razors come in so many varieties that it seems impossible to choose.

A disposable razor should have at least 3 or more blades to give you more value for your money, but remember that those extra blades can irritate sensitive skin.

Shaving is a process. Begin by using warm water and soap to cleanse the skin prior to shaving. This allows the skin to lose its morning puffiness and makes those hairs stand up straight. No matter which razor you choose, that pre-shave wash will help to remove debris that can clog a razor.

Sensitive skin responds well to mild soaps and shave gels formulated for this issue. Once you've washed, you can then apply the gel. Choose a gel that suits your skin by trying several products. There are shave oils that work well for men with extreme razor-bump issues.

Aftershave and shaving powders can help to soothe skin following a close shave. Rinse your face after shaving and apply aftershave or powder to soothe the irritation caused by razor blades or electric shavers.

Your choice of aftershave is totally up to you but remember to pick one that is formulated for your skin. Sensitive skin requires a sensitive aftershave.

Shaving products come in a huge variety so taking the time to pick the best product for your skin will make shaving much less of a chore.

Wet shaving

For centuries man has been shaving hair from faces and other body parts to look a certain way. Shaving has become an art and getting the perfect shave is a task that many men find difficult. Wet shaving and dry shaving both have their proponents.

Finding the perfect shave for you is often a matter of trial and error.

Wet shaving begins with a razor. Straight razors, disposable razors and even electric shavers can be used to create a wet shave.

Eventually, you might want to try a straight razor, but to begin shaving, a disposable razor is probably the easiest to work with.

Wet shaving tends to be a bit more cost effective depending on the type of razors that you choose. A single straight razor can be used for many years if it is sharpened carefully. Disposable razors are inexpensive when compared to electric razors and their replacement cartridges.

The choice of razors is important, but the choice of shave gels or lotions can be even more crucial. Wet shaving must be accomplished on skin that is hydrated.

The best shave comes from a mixture of water and shaving compounds like gels or creams. Shaving cream can be purchased commercially or you can create your own with a combination of soap and skin lotion.

Keeping the skin hydrated throughout the shave is the best way to minimize damage to the skin, including razor bumps and ingrown hairs. Most lotions provide a soothing agent like aloe that helps to alleviate irritation caused by the razor.

Keep in mind that if the disposable razor or straight razor blade is very sharp, and the skin is well-hydrated, there should not be much irritation. If you are seeing a few razor bumps after your shave, increase the amount of lubrication used during the shave.

Disposable razors for wet shaves must be maintained to remain sharp. Misting your razor with isopropyl alcohol after each use will extend its life. If your razor requires replaceable blades, remember to turn the blade over between shaves.

This gives your blade more life and keeps it "razor-sharp." Wet shaving gives you the very closest shave possible, no matter which type of razor you choose. Wet shaving is also the best type of shave for men with sensitive skin.

Running a dry razor blade over any skin tends to be quite abrasive but keeping the facial area wet helps to move the blade without skin damage.

Once you finish your wet shave, you can apply an aftershave lotion that also soothes the skin. Your perfect wet shave gives you the ability to create a pinpoint shave.

You can choose the length of sideburns and mustaches and create straight lines with a good wet shave.

Electric razors

The best part about having a beard is the lack of shaving. Many men find shaving to be a chore that is both painful and time consuming. Choosing between an electric razor and a disposable razor seems like a no-brainer. Electric razors provide a quick and clean shave with much less effort and pain.

Electric razors come in a huge variety of styles, shapes and even snazzy colors. When you choose your electric razor, keep in mind that shaving with this razor is much different than shaving with a disposable razor and water.

An electric razor actually has a break-in period and does not give the optimal shave until it is used several times. Most electric razors come with disposable blades or razor cartridges. Keep these on hand so that you do not run out at an inopportune moment!

Shaving with an electric razor minimizes both razor nicks and razor bumps. Beginning your day without having to deal with a bleeding face can definitely make you happy.

A wet razor or disposable razor actually takes off a thin layer of skin as you shave, increasing the risk of razor bumps and bleeding.

Electric razors pass over the skin and cut only the hairs. This creates a close shave without the damage.

Many men dread the pain of shaving, especially men with very sensitive skin. An electric razor can help to soothe sensitive skin during the shaving process.

Electric razors are also quite cost-effective. Once you make the initial purchase, an electric razor does not need to be replaced frequently. Some even have warranties that cover the equipment for several years.

Electric razors come in rechargeable and corded shavers. The options give you the convenience of taking your razor with you when you travel without needing to access water to shave. Rechargeable razors are small and fit easily into a travel bag.

Corded razors can be more powerful, so if you aren't worried about taking the shaver with you, they might be a better option.

Rechargeable razors are great for camping trips and quick shaves before business meetings. You can even keep one in your briefcase if you need a touch-up later in the day. Since some men actually shave twice daily, an electric shaver is very convenient and easy on the face!

Both electric and disposable razors can work with wet shave gels. Make sure that the shaver you purchase has the ability to withstand exposure to water before trying a wet shave.

Gels and lotions are excellent for making the electric shave just as close as a manual shaver. The results of both shaves are very similar, so much of the choice between electric and disposable shavers is a matter of opinion.

Razor burn

Razor burn is a problem that most men could definitely live without. Since shaving is a necessary evil, it seems like there is no way to get around those occasional razor bumps and burns. There are some simple steps that can be taken to avoid razor bumps and the pain associated with them.

The first step is generally a big change in shaving habits. Hurrying through your shave and choosing the wrong shaving equipment can cause damage to your skin. Changing some of your shaving habits will eliminate the burning face and unsightly bumps that you dread. Begin by slowing down. Shaving takes some time, so you might have to set the alarm clock fifteen minutes earlier to get the best shave.

Having the time to complete a good shave without rushing is the number one way to save your face. Add one task before you begin shaving, exfoliate.

Exfoliating your skin with a good lotion or even soap and water will take off the dead skin that clogs a razor. Since disposable razors remove a little bit of skin during a shave, exfoliating will minimize the damage.

Lubrication is the second most important step in getting rid of razor burn problems. Proper lubrication, no matter how you shave, will keep the razor moving over your face without snagging. Choose shaving gel, lotion or cream that suits your skin.

If you have to, spend an hour with a dermatologist to see what type of skin you have.

Oily skin responds to certain creams better than dry skin. If you know your skin type, you will be able to pick the right lotion or cream for your shaving habits. If all else fails, at least keep your face wet while you shave. Wet skin doesn't burn as easily as dry skin.

Sharp razors are equally important when it comes to avoiding razor burn. A dull razor actually has pits in the surface of the blade. These pits cause the razor to bump over your face rather than traveling smoothly.

The sharper the razor, the less skin damage it causes. Sharpen your blade if you use a straight razor. Change cartridges frequently with electric razors and throw away the old disposable razor. Keeping the sharpest blade possible is perfect for soothing skin that doesn't appreciate those little bumps and pits.

Use aftershave cream or lotions. These are specially formulated to improve the appearance of your skin following a shave. Since so much effort has gone into designing these lotions, it's probably time to start using them.

As an added bonus, most of them smell really nice. Aftershave that contains aloe or lanolin will give you healthier skin even if you aren't shaving every day.

Gentlemen, Antonio here.

Today, I'm going to be covering seven shaving secrets that I think every man needs to know.

If I can go back in time twenty-five years, guys, I would have appreciated this information. But, I can't go back in time, however I do have an eleven-year old son who has just started to shave his upper lip and I'm excited because I've been giving him tips, giving him information.

That's kind of what inspired this video. Now, I'm going to support this video with a great free eBook over at Real Men Real Style.

This eBook is going to help you transition from cartridge razors to a safety razor. I've also got information on straight razors, soaps, creams, and I like some cartridge razors and I will recommend them here.

But, in this eBook, guys, it's over twenty-five pages, I'm also going to have a shaving map which I'll get into here in a second once I get into these seven tips.

Now, these seven tips these seven secrets are things that I've learned things I've done research on and I find a lot of men don't know this they don't think through this and so, hopefully you will learn something new.

And, if there's a secret that you know that I've not covered in this video, guys, let me know in the comments down below.

So, shaving secret number one. Develop a routine. Notice I didn't say fall into a routine. And, me, personally when I was fourteen I fell into a routine. I didn't know what I was doing, and I just went off and got some shaving cream, a single, you know, disposable razor, you know, that had like a single blade on it and I went at it and had no idea what I was doing. I went against the grain, with the grain, I was just trying to figure things out.

Guys, you want to develop a routine.

The first part, develop, so do some research.

Go out there, grab that free eBook, go out there and read, go into the forms, learn about the different types of razors the different type of creams, all the options that you have to get a great shave.

Guys, we're all different we all had different types of facial hair, we have different thicknesses, different ways of growth, different amounts, start to develop your won routine.

So, a routine is going to be what you do day in and day out. And why do you want a routine?

So that you can start to experiment.

Once you've been shaving for a while you've kind of go the way you've been doing it and you follow this, then you can start to vary it up. You can try different creams, you can try bringing in pre-shave oils, try different razors, and by changing just one factor, you can start to get towards that perfect shave.

Shaving secret number two is to properly prepare your face.

Now, you want to do this by softening the hair.

The easiest way to do this is to shave after you get out of the shower.

When you're in the shower, you're going to get nice warm water on their maybe even hot water and what it's going to do is it's going to start to basically soften up the hair on your face.

If you don't do this, then you can apply a hot rag right afterwards, let it sit there for a minute or two.

The thing that conspires against this here is most of us are very short on time when we're trying to get ready in the morning, so what you also can look to do is apply on the shaving cream, then brush your teeth, do something else and then, shave, but give it a little bit of time to soften the hair.

Guys, preparation is key for a great shave.

Shaving secret number three more blades do not equal a better shave.

Case and point. So, I got this cartridge razor here, I've been testing it, it's got six blades on it and I can tell you that this is not giving me a close or a very good shave.

It's missing points, it's too bulky, it just doesn't work for me.

This disposable with three gives me a great shave.

This straight razor with one gives me an amazing shave although it takes a bit more time and this safety razor right here with a single blade, this gave me a great shape.

The point is we live in a world in which everyone is trying to sell you with more megapixels more blades, I mean there are going to be razors out there that have like twenty blades on them and, you know, with one swipe you can get your whatever the story is, don't fall for the hype. More blades do not equal a better shave. So, shaving secrets number four and number five, I'm going to bring them together.

Basically, use a shaving oil and do understand that there is a difference between shaving creams and quality shaving creams. So, shaving oils, if you're not familiar with these, you want to try this out. These things are amazing especially if you're getting any type of razor burn, this one right here is made by the Blades Grim.

I had these guys came out at StyleCon, they were big supporters and I love their shaving oil. Now, shaving creams, a lot of us are used to the propellant and this is probably all we're using.

The issue is if this stuff has propane if it's propelling out of a bottle, try to avoid this. Go with something that squeezes out of a tube or comes in a container.

You can go to Wal-Mart you can go to Walgreens, you can buy this stuff online, but I can tell you that this type of stuff is going to be better, one, because it doesn't have the harsh chemicals that we have in the ones that are being propelled, but when you use them together and I know some of you guys are going, Okay. Antonio, how do you use them together?

So, what you first do is you put on the oil, then you put on the cream.

Now, what happens when you have oil with a water-based cream, well, they don't combine. They actually form two layers right there and those two layers those two lubricating layers, they actually allow the blade to move very seamlessly right down and it gives you an incredible shave.

Let's cover shaving secret number six which is to use a brush. So, a lot of people they're going to use their hands and that's fine in a pinch, but if you're at home if you're traveling and you can pull off a brush, use a brush.

Why? Because it's going to better distribute the cream, it's going to basically get it under the hair, around the hair, it's going to just do a better job of getting this out of putting it on your face and you're going to get a better shave.

Finally, shaving secret number seven is to never shave the same spot twice and what do I mean by this. Okay, guys, think of beard reduction, not that so this is what I do, I don't know if you ever cut yourself shaving the same area again and again. Now, I talk about the importance of having an oil and then putting a good quality shaving cream on top of that. What that does is if you do these two or three times, you'll probably be okay, but if you don't have a good cream if you're not using oil, what this leads to is shaving burn.

You want the razor to go one time and once that cream is gone, do not run that razor, again, over and over.

That's what leads to irritation. If need be if you want to get a better shave, perhaps you missed an entire areas right here right above the chin, points like that, then what you want to do is clean off your face, re-apply shaving lotion and then shave again, but don't try to shave dry because what you're going to do is just going to irritate the skin and it's going to lead to a rash.

All right, guys. Those are the seven shaving secrets. If I missed something, please let me know I the comments and make sure to go check out the free eBook.

Now, in this free eBook, I've got a cool thing for you, I've got a full shaving map. Yes, you'll be able to download this, be able to you can print it off, you can write on it, you can take the image and you can like draw on it, however you want to do.

But, a shaving map is important to understanding the direction that the hair is growing on your face and how to best shave it. So, guys, a lot of people never even look at something like this, but I think if you take the shaving map, you will take the information in this eBook you're going to find that you are going to get the best shave of your life. Guys, that's it
